Denture

There are 2 types

Removable

A denture is a removable dental plate replacing missing teeth. They are made closely to resemble your natural teeth and may even enhance your smile. It improves your chewing, speech and digestion.

There are 2 types of removable dentures- 'Complete and Partial'. Complete dentures are made when all of the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are made . when some natural teeth are missing. A partial denture not only fills in the spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents the other teeth from shifting.

A complete denture may be 'Conventional' or 'immediate'. A conventional denture is made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed, usually taking 4-6 weeks. During this time, the patient has to remain without teeth. Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after the teeth are removed, thus preventing the patient from having to be without teeth during the healing process. Once the tissues shrink and heal, adjustments will have to be made in immediate dentures or are replaced with second set of dentures.

Fixed

Another alternative is Implant supported fixed dentures that are supported by and attached to implants. It allows you to wear full or partial dentures without worrying that they will slip or fall out and hence are a recommended treatment option.
